Three predominant bird species that have become a particular issue within the urban environment are the herring gull (Larus argentatus); lesser black-backed gull (Larus fuscus) and feral pigeon (Columbia livia). Other than the lesser black-backed gull, which is legally protected, these birds are officially categorised as ‘pest birds’ within the Wildlife & Countryside Act 1991
